i. Installation instructions
ii. Known security issues
iii. Launching the server

i. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
============================

1. Extract the HLDS2 RAR file to a folder of your choice
2. Locate the folder 'valve' included with your Half-Life/Counter-Strike Retail installation (e.g. C:\Sierra\Half-Life\valve\). Copy this folder to the one you have extracted the RAR file to.
3. Copy the files from the folder \overwritefiles\ included in the RAR to the root of your HLDS2 directory and overwrite all files.

Your server will now be listed at WON2 and Counter-Strike 1.5 has been updated to the latest WON version 1.5e.

FOR INTERNET USE, CONTINUE BELOW
4. Go back to Steamless CS Project and download the WON2 Patch for Windows servers (4.1.1.1e). This patch/crack is required to disable WON authentication.

IMPORTANT: The patch you are going to download may be illegal to use in your country. Steamless CS Project takes no responsibility whatsoever, just like with using this software; you act completely at your own risk.

5. Apply the patch

ii. KNOWN SECURITY ISSUES
============================

This software, as well as the original 1.1.1.1e, has a security vulnerability known as 'HLBoom'. Sending a malformed package to the server will crash HLDS. Therefore, we recommend installing the HLBoom Patch available at www.steamlessproject.nl.

iii. LAUNCHING THE SERVER
============================

Double-click on hlds.exe, after which you choose LAN mode in the menu. Choosing Internet will result in a "Class C LAN" error, so be sure to choose LAN.

If you want to run HLDS2 as a system service, you need to use the -console parameter in order to activate Console mode. Note that you will need to use the usual parameters as you would do with pre-1.1.1.1 HLDS software, as the menu is disabled. If you want to run a private server, you should use -nomaster, so your server will not be listed at WON2.

For more info on how to configure HLDS2 check our site.
