ii. RELEASE NOTES

iia. System Requirements

For some components of the Update to work, you are required to have the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed. You can download this package free of charge from Microsoft, see links below.

.NET Framework Version 2.0 x86 version (Windows 98, ME, 2000, Server 2003, XP, Vista)

.NET Framework Version 2.0 x64 version (Windows XP x64, Server 2003 x64, Vista x64)

While the Update will not further significantly change the system requirements other than those mentioned on the Half-Life packages, it should be noted that:

- Half-Life, Counter-Strike Retail or Gunman Chronicles is required to be installed at all times (when updating with corresponding update packages)
- Half-Life is required to be updated to at least v1.1.1.0 or Counter-Strike Retail to v1.0.0.5. Gunman Chronicles does not require any additional updates prior to installing 1.1.1.2.

In addition updating is possible from Half-Life v1.1.1.1 and the Release Candidate version of Half-Life v1.1.1.2.

In case your Half-Life or Counter-Strike Retail version does not match the one mentioned above, download and install the Half-Life v1.1.1.0 full update package (hl1110.exe) or the Counter-Strike Retail v1.0.0.5 full update package, in advance of installing this Update.

IMPORTANT: For the WON2 Protocol system to work, you must run the Update installer as Administrator. In Windows Vista, run the setup with Administrator rights by right-clicking on the setup file and choosing 'Run as Administrator'. In Windows XP, Server 2003 and 2000, make sure your account has Administrator privileges and run the setup by double-clicking on it.

iib. Launching the game

To launch the game, double-click Half-Life.exe. Feel free to add a shortcut to this file, including any parameters, such as -console.

iic. Activating the Enhanced GraphiCs engine (EGC)

By default, for your own convenience, EGC has been disabled. To activate, click bloom.bat, or create a shortcut to Half-Life.exe and add the parameter -bloom.

To disable EGC, create a shortcut to Half-Life.exe and add the parameter -nobloom or doubleclick nobloom.bat.

While in-game you can control the amount of bloom used by pushing F1. Each time you push this button the bloom intensity will be set to higher or lower (five levels available). F1 also brings up the EGC menu where you can choose to quit playing.

IMPORTANT: EGC requires a videocard supporting pixel-shaders backed by 128 MB, in order to keep playing Half-Life smoothly at 1024x768. A nVidia GeForce 5600 Series or ATI Radeon 9600 Series videocard, or better, is recommended.

iid. Transparency Fix and AntiCheat systems

By default, the transparency fix (to remove the 'blue' around models) is enabled. However, some -usually deprecated- anticheat systems may require you to disable this fix. If you wish to disable it, doubleclick hlds.bat.

iie. Launching a listen server

Launch Half-Life by clicking Half-Life.exe. Then, go to Internet Games and click Create Game. After launching your server should be listed at the WON2 Masterservers. If your server still doesn't get listed, type heartbeat in console.

IMPORTANT: Direct3D or OpenGL mode is required in order to list the listen server.

IMPORTANT: Transparency fix must be enabled.

iif. Launching a dedicated server

Add the parameter -hlds to the shortcut to Half-Life.exe, or doubleclick hlds.bat. This will prepare your installation to launch a dedicated server.
